Housing groups have been invited to be part of the joined-up solution to revitalising Britain’s communities. The Government is consulting on plans to extend the powers’ of registered social landlords to allow them expand their scope beyond simply providing housing services to tenants.

An amendment to the law is being prepared allowing housing trusts and associations to provide services and amenities to people who are not resident in the their properties, so long as some of their own tenants also benefit.

This would allow such groups to provide services and amenities for whole communities.

The Government is consulting interested bodies on the proposed extension of the powers of social landlords and has asked for comments by March 15.
