The Better Government for Older People strategy is taking shape with the announcement of measures to improve health care. A National Service Framework for Older People will be published in April 2000. It will set out standards for health and social services working together to deliver high quality care.
Work on the Framework will be led by an independent External Reference Group who will consult health and social care professionals and managers, service users and carers, and others. It will focus on NHS services that matter most to older people, such as acute hospital care, models of primary and community care and transitions to and from hospital. Group members come from a diverse range of agencies and backgrounds. The Group will be backed up by several task groups, including one for consulting older people and one for listening to carers.
