The Performance and Innovation Unit have launched a study into the future role of central government at the regional and local level. The consultation paper which is being used to stimulate debate can be seen at www.cabinet-office.gov.uk/piu/1999/consultation
The Unit will look at a number of issues including ways in which central government can provide better and more efficient delivery of its policies and services to people and organisations at the local and regional level. Social exclusion, regeneration and competitiveness will also be put under the spotlight. The study is being launched at this time to coincide with the creation of the Regional Development Agencies, which will increasingly influence the regional scene.
The Unit would like to hear from regional bodies, local authorities and representative of the business and voluntary sectors. Responses should be sent to email@example.com by 1 June.
