A consultation paper on housing issued by the Department for Environment Transport and the Regions makes no mention of proposals published by the Department of Social Security. This is despite the coverage of supported and sheltered housing in the DSS document Supporting People.

The Best Value initiative in local government recognises the importance of a joined up approach to addressing issues, but the DETR Best Value Housing Framework consultation paper is silent about cross cutting strategies.

Liz Potter, Head of Housing Management and Support at the Housing Federation said: “Whilst the consultation paper talks of ‘joined up thinking’ and social inclusion much has happened since the paper was finalised in December. The implementation of the proposals contained within the Framework must take this into account and remain flexible to improve and develop”.
