Modernisation at the Home Office took a step forward with the announcement that a consortium had been chosen to provide new information and communications technology systems. It is planned to sign a contract in the summer based on the Public Finance Initiative.
The project, which is one of the largest undertaken by the Government, will provide improved services to Ministers, Parliament and the public and allow new methods of working which will result in reduced costs. It aims to put the Home Office at the forefront of Whitehall in delivering modern services in good time and at the best price.
The consortium has three members. The Sema Group will be responsible for IT developments and programme management. Deloitte Consulting will deliver a business change programme. CSL will manage the creation of a Shared Service Centre on Merseyside which will run personnel and finance administrative systems for the Home Office.
