A new training course has been launched to give head teachers and senior staff the skills to carry out a ‘do it yourself’ inspection of their own school. The course is built around the role of the OFSTED inspector. It will help course members to evaluate standards and assess the quality of teaching, leadership and management. It is also designed to raise an awareness of strengths and weaknesses so that management strategies can be revised.

Schools are normally inspected by OFSTED every 5 years and although learning is intense in the period leading to the inspection and from analysis of the report, the impact diminishes with the passage of time. The course seeks to remedy this by prompting a regular and systematic review. The training is available through OFSTED licensed training providers including commercial organisations and local education authorities.
