Over half the 54 Chartermarks awarded for a third time have gone to local authorities. The winners include a register office, which opened specially on a Sunday to marry 20 couples on St Valentine’s Day, and a local authority which currently holds a record 10 Charter Marks.
A total 214 awards were made and all except four were second or third time winners. The introduction of a rolling programme of assessment for awards has made it possible to announce results in two phases. A full list of winners will be announced on 1 February 2000, the day of the Charter Mark Awards ceremony itself.
