Older people have told the Government they want to work into their retirement and to maintain their independence.Their thinking will inform new public policy and is part of the Better Government for Older People project, based in the Cabinet Office.

The study into the needs of older people was carried out at Warwick University on commission from the Department of Social Security.

The proportion of people aged 50 and over has doubled this century, and people are living longer than ever before. The Government wants to be seen to accurately respond to the needs of this ageing population.
