Members of central government have listened to older people – now it’s the turn of local government.Local authority officers and members will meet with older people this spring in a series of national conferences around the country.

The events are organised by the Better Government for Older People programme’s Network, a new forum made up of councillors, officers and groups representing the interests of older people.

The idea is to improve public services and make them more responsive to older people’s needs. The latest initiative will be about tailoring services to people’s needs at a local level.

The conferences and formation of the Network follow the Government’s Inter-Ministerial Group on Older People which held a series of listening to older people events up and down the country during 1999.
