The Government has praised a scheme in Hertfordshire which has set up formal links between the area’s childminders and schools – giving parents the chance to go back to work. The difference between school hours and those of a full time job have always created a problem for parents who want to work. The new scheme gives a boost to the role of childminders, who help parents fill that time gap.
Childminders register at the school, which passes details on to interested parents. The childminders are included as members of the school community, alongside parents, receiving newsletters and invitations to activities.
The childminder network scheme in Hertfordshire is included in one of nearly 150 new Early Years Development and Childcare Plans across the country approved by the DfEE as part of its aim to increase the number of quality childcare places across the country.
