The new DSS website has undergone a change of direction. It has been re-designed around the needs of the customer, rather than the structure of the organisation. This means that a user no longer needs knowledge of how the department manages and delivers benefits in order to find information successfully.
The change is part of the move towards the department being able to deliver all of its services electronically by 2005. The new design offers the platform on which electronic services can be offered in future. Later this year a range of claim forms will be available on the website.
The new site replaces the former BA and DSS HQ websites. It followed research costing one hundred thousand pounds and developments costs of one hundred and fifty thousand pounds. The main contractors for construction of the website were Central Office of Information (COI Communications).
