Senior policing managers will be discussing the effectiveness of Government performance indicators on their work at a conference beginning today (Monday, September 11). It is the biggest gathering of the year of the Superintendents’ Association, which represents operational managers in the police service. It is this group which has been most involved in the introduction of performance indicators, who are still close enough to the ground to have a feel for whether there has been any real change.
The conference, at Newport in Gwent, will be addressed during the week by the Home Secretary, and also by shadow spokesman Ann Widdecombe. Other topics of current concern to the Superintendents’ Association, and which will also be discussed, are cybercrime which will be addressed by an FBI speaker, paedophiliacs, youth action teams and the under-representation of women at senior level in the police service.
The conference has its own website. Link: www.policing2000plus.com
