Local councils, private contractors and organisations with an interest in local government procurement and commissioning are being invited to put their case to a new taskforce.The Local Government Procurement Taskforce has now begun its review, with the aim of identifying and recommending best practice in what is a fast-changing sector, due to the growth of e-procurement possibilities.
The taskforce is securing research on the topic and is now calling for evidence from purchasers and suppliers, as well as from members of the public who use services purchased on their behalf by councils.

Responses are required by December 8, 2000, before the taskforce starts to invite oral evidence from selected groups.
The taskforce is led by Sir Ian Byatt, former Director General of Ofwat, and will report by the end of May 2001.
