A Chinese agency set up to promote trade and investment with Britain is to join forces with the regional development agency (RDA) for the North East to attempt to break down the North South divide. The China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), and One NorthEast have established a dedicated office for regional businesses seeking to enter the China market.

One NorthEast sees its job as helping businesses in its region harvest a share of the huge business potential. That potential is not yet being realised due to the mixed economic make-up of the region, and its long industrial heritage.

CBBC North East is located in Billingham and is headed by Alastair Gardner, a chartered chemist who returned recently from China where he worked as a consultant setting up a printing plate manufacturing factory in Zhengzhou, Henan province.

The office will be launched with a business seminar setting out how to achieve business success in China, which will be held at Durham County Cricket Club tomorrow (Tuesday, October 24).
