The contract with the Employment Service’s IT partner has been extended to further transform the way Jobcentres do business with both employers and people looking for work. The extra deal is worth a further five hundred million pounds and will give Jobcentres the ability to promote not just local vacancies, but every vacancy in the country.
All 1,000 Jobcentres will have new computers and supporting software, and during 2001 touchscreen kiosks will be introduced for easy searching of the Employment Service Internet job bank.
There will also be a national vacancy taking and handling service for employers provided through a single national telephone number. Employer Direct should be up and running by Autumn 2001.
Lastly, a redesigned Employment Service website with fresh content and easy navigation will start to carry the ‘job bank’ during this month at www.employmentservice.gov.uk.
