One of the biggest challenges facing public service planners is forecasting the future. A new pamphlet by Bob Tyrrell, former head of the Henley Centre for Forecasting, offers some pointers to the forces that will influence change over the next twenty years.Among the light-hearted predictions is the resignation of Tony Blair as Prime Minister, exhausted and seemingly broken by seven years in office.

On a more serious note, ‘Things can only get… different?’ looks at the nature of government as leadership, and how the relationship between government and the governed is changing.

It also looks at whether globalisation will continue to be a powerful influence, and the effects of a less homogenous society upon government.

The pamphlet can be obtained for five pounds from the Centre for Policy Studies, 57 Tufton Street, London SW1P 3QL, quoting offer TCO1.
