The Government has promised action as a result of a Better Regulation Task Force report on the impact for farmers of measures they must follow to protect the environment. The Task Force reported in November last year that the burden of regulation was unecessarily heavy on the agriculture industry, which is already under pressure.

Improvement measures in a joint response from MAFF and DETR include a promise of more co-ordination, and better guidance to policy makers on the likely impact of new initiatives.

There is also a promise to maximise data sharing and exchanges of information, and to co-ordinate farm inspections.
