Government is making a wealth of information gathered to inform its policies commercially available online.A new ‘Click-Use’ online licence goes live on Her Majesty’s Stationery Office’s website this week.
Businesses, publishers, libraries and members of the public will be able to utilise and communicate Government information, such as data about health, house prices, schools performance tables, crime, census results and guidance issued by Departments.
Some of the material covered by the licence can be reused free of charge. To get the licence users visit HMSO’s website and complete an application form online. The licence takes immediate effect.
The Government admits that by comparison, the previous system for applying to use such information was cumbersome.
The initiative is linked to the Government’s Review of the Knowledge Driven Economy as part of the Spending Review 2000.
Details of the click use licence can be found on HMSO’s website. Link: www.hmso.gov.
