The Government has launched a new website that will be an interactive aid to manufacturing businesses.www.dti.gov.uk/manufacturing   will build into a database of expertise that companies can draw on to further their business.

The website will initially provide information on the Government’s Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) but will use 15 million pounds announced in the White Paper, Opportunity for All in a World of Change, to put companies in similar fields of work in touch with each other.

Its thought the database will be most valuable for new small and medium-sized enterprises who have the ideas but could often benefit from joint working with other established businesses to get them into production.

MAS has been set up to enable small and medium sized manufacturers to improve productivity and competitiveness via regional centres of manufacturing excellence, a partnership between the DTI, Regional Development Agencies and the Small Business Service.

The website is part of its second remit – to provide a supporting national network of centres of expertise.
