Young people starting out at university this month are to be targeted by a new publication encouraging them to consider a career in the UK public sector.Prospects Focus on Public Services, is a magazine produced by CSU, the higher education Careers Services Unit.

It will highlight the wide variety of graduate jobs available in the public sector as well as publicising specific vacancies.

The CSU says the initiative will combat the impression that private sector jobs are more interesting than those in the public sector, highlight the variety of careers on offer, and emphasise the sheer size of the job prospects working for Europe’s largest workforce.

The magazine will highlight excellent training and career breaks that are usually part of the public sector career package as well as early openings for management roles and the added satisfaction of a job that serves the community.

A recent survey of those working in the public sector revealed worries that the image of the work was putting off new entrants
