This programme is now available to view on GovTV the online television channel for public service modernisation. It describes how Bedfordshire police in partnership with T-Mobile have equipped front-line officers with Blackberry Smartphones, which provide a range of applications only previously available on a desktop PC or by contacting a colleague at the station on a police radio. The mobile solution means there is now a wealth of knowledge at officers’ fingertips, including briefing notes and task updates, as well as access to the Police National Computer, the Police Visual Handbook and the legal database.
The force has greatly reduced the need for officers to return to the police station during a shift, meaning they are on the beat for around an hour longer each day, thereby increasing their effectiveness and visibility to the public.
Mobile working solutions are having a huge impact on Local Government, Crime and Disorder and the Emergency Services, with many agencies now using proven communications technologies and end-user devices to increase staff productivity.
GovTV is a dedicated web-cast television channel for governors of public bodies, council members and senior executives across all public sector organisations and is available free to an unlimited audience at anytime, at any location via the internet.
