OFSTED STRESSES IMPORTANCE OF TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The report shows that many good schools use their Ofsted inspection reports to identify priorities for improvement but sets out challenges that still face schools.

FIELD TRIALS TO TAKE TOTAL PLACE FORWARD

The Total Place pilot projects are being followed up with field trials to deepen understanding of issues and refine the solutions developed so far. Field trials are also likely to be extended to parallel places where projects were initiated locally. The trials will supplement the work in progress across the country to develop total place thinking.

OFSTED SAYS SOME CAREERS ADVICE FAILS YOUNG PEOPLE

Inadequate careers advice is leaving some young people at risk of making the wrong choices about their future, according to a report published today by Ofsted. It says the quality of information and guidance varies across England and, in some cases, fails to meet the needs of those people who are most at risk of ending up not in education, employment or training.

COUNCILS GET NEW GUIDANCE ON TRAVELLERS AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

EMPOWERING YOUNG PEOPLE – EVALUATION OF PILOTS

The Empowering Young People pilots were part of the ten year youth strategy for positive activities. The aim of the pilots was to make funds available so that the most disadvantaged young people in nine pilot areas could access positive activities. The amounts of the monthly subsidy varied from £20 to £40.

COUNCILS TOLD TO ACT NOW ON COSTS TO MINIMISE DAMAGE FROM CUTS

MPs WANT DECENT HOMES STANDARDS FOR PRIVATE RENTED SECTOR

A report by MPs today praises the impact of the Decent Homes Programme on the living conditions of most social housing tenants but says the Government has failed to invest in a parallel programme for tenants in the private sector. The report from the Communities and Local Government Select Committee says there should be targets to bring all homes up to a decent standard.
