This programme is now available to view on localgov.tv the online television channel for public service modernisation. It explains how telephone interpreting has been introduced by Sheffield Hospital NHS Trust to improve service to people with a limited knowledge of English and to cut costs.

The Trust needs interpreting help for some 12,000 people and it now uses telephone interpreting for about 70% of its requirement. The service provided by Language Line is available 24/7 and it covers 200 languages. Because the facility is flexible and available within minutes, service quality has been improved. In the first year of operation there was a saving of £250,000.

GBTV is a dedicated web-cast television channel for governors of public bodies, council members and senior executives across all public sector organisations and is available free to an unlimited audience at anytime, at any location via the internet.
