After a hefty increase in funding in the budget, NHS workers are now beginning to feel the benefit personally. The government’s pay offer for 300,000 ambulance, ancillary, clerical, and scientific, professional and technical staff, accepted by UNISON, means increases of 6.5% for cleaners, 5.2% for most ancillary staff and up to 7.6% for some of the lowest paid technicians.
Every police officer is promised they will be better off under a pay deal which will also modernise conditions of service. Each is to receive a minimum of £400 a year on top of their annual index-linked percentage rise due this September.Originally pay rises were to be targeted at frontline officers in return for a cut in excessive overtime payments. The new deal, which rank and file officers have voted to accept, ensures everyone will have a basic pay increase and some will also benefit from special priority payments recognising the challenge of duties at the sharp end of policing.
